OUR STORY

From our early days of holding church services in a bar on Sundays, Norview launched into a small, new church built on Hugo Street where the Masonic Lodge is now located. It expanded to an even larger church that we now call home. Norview has a storied and historic journey with the Lord. Those humble beginnings in 1920 during the Great Depression forged our bedrock faith in God and Jesus Christ. That dedication and love for Jesus cast our members into pledging their livelihoods in the 1930s to expanding the church while the world looked to war in the 1940s. The 40s brought the construction of the building on Norview Avenue. The nifty 50s brought even more people and more changes to Norview. A new kitchen, classrooms, and a growing membership that strained our tiny sanctuary. We even hosted classes from Norview High School as the nation wrestled during the turbulent end of segregation and Jim Crow laws with the integration of our public schools. The turbulent 60s brought a new sanctuary, more classrooms, and a really, hippie cool coffee shop. The 70s were filled with dinners, youth trips, and continuing the work of those before us in making disciples of Christ. The 80s & 90s saw the expansion of our missions, our support groups and Boy Scouts. The church entered into the 2000s though with a dwindling congregation as technology and a growing fear of "organized and corrupt" religions that ruled the evening news. Members moved on due to jobs, military transfers, and a lost interest in praising God. We are still here. Mission work - feeding the homeless, mentoring to those afflicted with addiction and continuing to praise and glorify Jesus. 100 plus years and we are still at it! Come join us to help make disciples of Christ and to love, nurture, and care for our neighbors as Christ has taught us.
